성채를 짓다
박진택 건축사의 ‘강사유’는 과거 추구하던 역동적인 운동성에서 벗어나, 인간의 온기가 묻어나는 ‘최후의 은신처’를 탐색한 주택이다. 50세를 지나며 겪은 신체의 변화와 직접 지은 집에서의 거주 경험 등은 그가 아카데미적 맥락을 벗어나 새로운 시각을 갖는 계기가 되었다. 그는 세상의 변화를 인정하면서도 스스로의 존재를 지키기 위해 안간힘을 쓰는 굳건한 ‘성채’의 이미지를 집안 깊숙이 끌어올렸다.

남북으로 긴 대지 조건 속에서 건축사는 강이 보이는 남향 전체를 전면 창으로 채우는 진부한 방식 대신 천창을 도입했다. 넘치는 빛을 다소 줄여 모자라게 함으로써 내부 공간의 빛을 오히려 더 소중하게 만든 것이다. 실전원생활의 경험을 바탕으로 현관에는 먼지를 분리하는 머드룸을 두었으며, 유지관리를 위해 작업과 거주, 침실과 거실 공간을 철저히 분리하고자 했다. 이러한 공간 분리는 대지 형상과 건축주의 요구를 반영해 ‘수직적 레벨’을 통해 유기적으로 해결되었다. 강사유는 지친 삶이 온전히 돌아가 쉴 수 있는 가장 내밀한 보금자리다.

Building a Fortress
Gangsayu, designed by architect Park Jin-taek, is a house that moves away from the dynamic sense of movement he had pursued in the past, and instead explores the idea of a “final refuge” filled with human warmth. Physical changes experienced after the age of fifty, together with the experience of living in a house he built himself, became a turning point that allowed him to step outside an academic framework and look at architecture from a new perspective.
While acknowledging the changes of the world, he brought deep into the house the image of a solid “fortress” — one that struggles to protect its own existence.

On a long north-south site, the architect chose not to follow the conventional approach of filling the entire south-facing side, which looks toward the river, with large windows. Instead, he introduced skylights. By reducing the amount of abundant light and allowing it to feel slightly restrained, the light inside the house becomes even more precious.
Based on his own experience of rural living, a mudroom was placed at the entrance to separate dust from the interior. For easier maintenance, he also sought to clearly separate work and living areas, as well as bedroom and living spaces. This spatial division was resolved organically through vertical levels, reflecting both the shape of the site and the needs of the client.

Gangsayu is the most intimate shelter to which a weary life can fully return and rest.
