Ilgok White House

 

 

 

부지는 도심형 전원주택지가 조성된 일곡동 자연마을에 위치한다. 남향을 바라보는 동서 장 변의 사각형 부지와 서 측 근린공원, 그리고 높은 지대를 점하여 마을 전경을 조망할 수 있는 이곳은 개방성이 뛰어나다. 도로에는 차량이 많지 않아 아침·낮·저녁으로 주민들의 산책이 빈번하고 서로 눈인사를 나누는 정겨움과 안락함이 느껴지는 여유로운 마을이다.

젊은 부부와 어린 두 자녀, 그리고 왕래가 잦은 부모님을 위해 계획된 이 집은 지극히 일상적인 거주의 안락함과 함께 단독주택이라는 환경에서 누릴 수 있는 자유로운 공간구성을 통해 비 일상성의 풍부한 생활 감각을 더 하고자 하였다. 삼대 가족 구성원 각각이 추구하는 사생활 보호와 개방성의 적절한 조화를 위해 주변 맥락에 대한 섬세한 대응이 요구되었다. 이에 공원과 길 모서리, 주변 집과 이웃들이 마주하는 이 집의 경계면에 대한 대응과 함께 내부 공간의 질서와 연결, 확장이라는 개념을 토대로 주변과 적절히 소통하면서도 내밀한 공간을 조성하여 주거의 본질을 구현하고자 하였다.

높이 1.8m의 지형 차를 지니는 이 집은 공원과 마주하는 높이에 마당과 주거의 기능을 배치하고 낮은 레벨에 주차장을 두어 생활영역과 진입영역을 구분하였다. 대문과 주차장 너머 위치하는 1층의 작은 마당을 관통하는 시선 축과 소재감(바닥, 반자)의 대비는 공간의 위계와 전이를 명확히 하는 장치이다. 현관 레벨로 진입하면 안마당과 열린 담장 너머 공원 방면으로 새로운 시선 축이 인지되며 비로소 생활영역의 안온한 감각이 전해진다. 실내 공간구성은 본채와 별채 두 개의 매스로 구별되며 이들은 외부의 경계 역할을 하는 장벽으로 다시 연결되어 안마당을 품고 있는 단일 경관으로 읽힌다. 내부 공간구성은 가족들이 함께하는 거실 영역과 개별 침실 영역으로 구분하였다. 모든 내부 공간들은 각각이 접한 마당이나 데크를 통해 고립되지 않고 외부로의 확장이 가능한 구조로 계획하여, 유기적이고 개방적인 환경을 누리도록 하였다.

하얀 세라믹 타일 단일 소재로 마감한 외관은 주변 집들의 무거운 톤과 대비되는 밝고 경쾌한 느낌으로 길 모서리를 밝힌다. 하얀 캔버스와도 같은 외벽은 자연의 변화가 오롯이 담긴 근린공원의 사계와 어우러져 극대화된 자연미를 선사할 것이다. 공원과 안마당이 접한 경계벽은 투과형 구조로 디자인하여 가족들이 가벼운 외부활동 중 주민들과의 시선 마주침을 허용하며 친밀감을 나누고, 공원경관을 내부로 유입하여 깊이감을 더하도록 하였다. 이 투과형 구조는 도장한 스테인리스 파이프와 와이어를 활용하여 3차원 결구 방식의 독특한 패턴을 보이며 집 외관의 특징이 되었다. 이웃 간의 마주침이 필연적인 도시에서 의도된 균열과 틈으로 기능하는 분절된 벽, 유리블록, 루버 스크린, 열린 진입마당, 투과구조 등의 경계가 도시주거의 친근한 표정으로 받아들여지길 바란다.

The site is located in Ilgok-dong Natural Village, where an urban-style residential neighborhood has been developed. With its rectangular site stretching east to west and facing south, a neighborhood park to the west, and an elevated position overlooking the village, the site offers a strong sense of openness. The road has little traffic, and residents often take walks in the morning, during the day, and in the evening. It is a relaxed village where people exchange friendly greetings, giving the area a sense of warmth and comfort.

Planned for a young couple, their two young children, and parents who visit often, this house seeks to provide the ordinary comfort of everyday living while adding a richer sense of life through the freer spatial composition made possible by a detached house. To balance privacy and openness for the three generations of family members, a careful response to the surrounding context was required. The design therefore focused on the boundaries where the house meets the park, the street corner, neighboring houses, and local residents. Based on the ideas of order, connection, and expansion within the interior, the house seeks to create an intimate living environment while maintaining an appropriate relationship with its surroundings.

 

The site has a level difference of 1.8 meters. The courtyard and main living spaces are placed at the level facing the park, while the parking area is located on the lower level, separating the living area from the entry area. The visual axis passing through the small courtyard on the first floor, beyond the gate and parking area, together with the contrast of materials between the floor and ceiling, clearly defines the hierarchy and transition of space. Upon entering the level of the main entrance, a new visual axis is perceived toward the park beyond the inner courtyard and the open boundary wall. Only then does the calm and protected atmosphere of the living area begin to unfold.

The interior composition is divided into two masses: the main house and the annex. These are connected again by a wall that serves as an external boundary, forming a single landscape that embraces the inner courtyard. Inside, the spaces are organized into the shared living area for the family and the individual bedroom areas. Each interior space is planned to extend outward through its own courtyard or deck, allowing the house to avoid isolation and instead offer an organic and open living environment.

 

The exterior, finished entirely in white ceramic tile, brightens the street corner with a light and cheerful impression, contrasting with the heavier tones of the surrounding houses. Like a white canvas, the exterior walls will harmonize with the changing seasonsneighborhood park and enhance the beauty of nature.

The boundary wall between the park and the inner courtyard was designed as a permeable structure. It allows the family to exchange gentle glances with neighbors during light outdoor activities, while drawing the park landscape into the house and adding a sense of depth. This permeable structure, made with painted stainless-steel pipes and wires, creates a distinctive threedimensional joint pattern and becomes a defining feature of the house’s exterior.

In a city where encounters between neighbors are inevitable, we hope that the segmented walls, glass blocks, louver screens, open entry courtyard, and permeable structures — all functioning as intentional cracks and gaps — will be received as a friendly expression of urban living.
