강촌 강아지 숲 테마파크
반려동물 시장은 2020년 6조 원대의 거대 시장으로 성장했다. 그러나 잘못된 반려문화의 확산으로 유기견이 늘어나고 반려견에 의한 개 물림 사고가 발생하는 등 반려동물 사건이 사회문제화되자, 건축주는 반려문화를 개선하고 선진 반려문화 정착을 위한 지식과 정보를 전달하기 위해 반려견과 반려인은 물론 비반려인도 함께 할 수 있는 복합 테마파크 건립 추진을 구상하게 됐다.

설계의도
유례가 없는 프로젝트를 진행하며 가장 먼저 고려한 부분은 자연과의 조화였다. 이를 위해 부지 지형에 순응하는 건축물을 계획해 자연의 훼손을 최소화하고자 했다. 이곳을 찾은 관람객들이 반려견과 함께 자연을 가까이 느끼며 시간을 보내길 희망한다.

평면계획
강아지 숲은 박물관과 광장을 통해 모든 활동이 시작될 수 있도록 계획했다.
첫째, 광장은 각종 동호회 회원들의 만남의 장소로서 차를 타고 온 반려인 또는 반려견들이 물을 먹거나 배변활동을 하는 등 숨을 고르는 장소로 활용하도록 했다.
둘째, 1층 로비는 상설전시관으로, 2·3층은 반려견의 역사와 반려견의 언어를 체험해 볼 수 있는 공간으로 활용했다. 반려견과 함께할 수 없는 박물관의 1층에는 전문 훈련사로 구성된 직원이 상주하는 반려견 보관소가 있다.
셋째, 옥상광장은 교육 및 시범 장소로 활용하며, 운동장과 연계해 국제대회나 국내대회(KDDN) 유치 시 가변시설로 활용하도록 계획했다.

수영장과 운동장
수영장은 운동장과 함께 반려인과 반려견이 놀이를 통해 유대를 강화할 수 있는 공간으로, 놀이와 휴식이 가능하도록 구성했다.

총평
강아지 숲은 약 112,400제곱미터(34,000평)의 넓은 부지 위에 주차장, 박물관과 5개의 크고 작은 운동장, 자연과 함께하는 3킬로미터의 산책로, 요소요소의 4개 카페, 놀이문화를 완성하는 수영장을 포함하고 있는 다양한 테마로 이뤄진 테마파크이다.
사례 조사를 해보니 전 세계적으로 강아지 관련 박물관으로 허가받은 곳은 대한민국의 강아지 숲이 처음이다. 올바른 반려문화가 정착되지 않은 우리나라에서 반려견들이 활동에 제약을 받지 않고 마음껏 뛰어놀 수 있는 애견 복합 문화 공간이 되길 기대해 본다.

In 2020, the pet market grew into a massive industry, with an estimated value of 6 trillion won. However, as issues related to the proliferation of an improper pet culture began to emerge, such as the increase in abandoned animals and incidents of dog bites, the owner of the property decided to undertake the construction of a complex theme park. The primary goal was to promote a more advanced pet culture and provide knowledge and information to both pet owners and non-pet owners.

Design Intent
The first consideration for this unprecedented project was harmony with nature. To achieve this, the architecture was planned to adapt to the site’s topography, minimizing disruption to the natural environment. It is hoped that visitors to this place can enjoy time with their pets in close proximity to nature.

Site Layout
The “D.forest” is designed to facilitate all activities through a museum and a plaza. The plaza serves as a meeting place for club members and pet owners who arrive by car, offering a space for activities such as drinking water, restroom use, and relaxation for both pets and their owners. The first-floor lobby features permanent exhibitions, while the second and third floors provide spaces for experiencing the history of pets and understanding their language. On the first floor of the museum, where pets cannot enter, there is a pet daycare center staffed with professional trainers. The rooftop plaza is designed for educational and demonstration purposes, which can also serve as a variable facility for hosting international and domestic dog competitions (KDDN) in conjunction with the sports field.

Swimming Pool and Sports Field
The swimming pool, along with the sports field, is designed as a space where pet owners and their pets can strengthen their bond through play and relaxation.

Overall, the “D.forest” spans about 112,400 square meters (34,000 pyeong) and includes a parking lot, a museum, five large and small sports fields, a 3-kilometer nature trail, four cafes, and a swimming pool to complete the recreational culture. Upon conducting case studies, it became evident that “D.forest” is the first pet-related museum in South Korea to obtain official permission. In a country where proper pet culture has not yet fully settled, it is hoped that this complex cultural space for dogs will provide a place for pets to freely run and play without constraints, promoting a more responsible and advanced pet culture.
