오랫동안 서울 아파트에 거주한 건축주는 정겨운 고향에서 삶의 여유와 안정을 찾고자 하는 작은 목표를 가지고 있었다. 생각은 실천으로 이어져 건물을 신축해 전원의 삶을 계획하는 데 이르게 됐다. 대지 주변의 소나무와 어울리는 쾌적하면서도 소박하고 정감 있는 작은 주택을 원하는 건축주의 요구를 적극 반영해, 기존 주변 환경을 해치지 않는 자연 속 건축물이 될 수 있도록 여러 대안을 검토했다. 경사진 언덕에 위치한 지형과 기존 수목들 간의 관계 등 여러 조건들을 분석해 건물을 배치했다. 건물명은 주변 소나무와 일체된 건물이 될 수 있도록 하는 마음에서 ‘송경제’로 지었다.

대지의 위치는 다양한 시점에서 수려한 자연환경을 볼 수 있는, 경관이 풍부하다는 장점을 지니고 있다. 이에 각도, 인체 시점, 프레임 등을 고려해 다양한 경관을 즐길 수 있는 공간을 계획하고, 외부공간을 건물내부로 끌어들이려 노력했다.

privacy
반면 소수의 이웃주택들이 위치한 서쪽 측면으로는 개구부를 최소화해서 사적 공간을 보호했다. 대신 동남쪽 측면에 커다란 개구부를 설치해 채광과 환기, 경관의 효과를 극대화했다. 또 입면을 고려해 솔리드와 보이드의 비례를 부여해 단편적 지루함을 해소시키고자 했다.

various out space
대지의 크기가 건물 규모에 비해 다소 넓다고 판단해, 건물을 북쪽에 치우치도록 세우고 하나의 넓은 정원이 아니라 앞마당, 뒷마당, 포켓마당, 2층 테라스, 주방과 연결된 바베큐 공간 등 다양한 옥외공간을 계획했다. 옥외공간을 통해 전원의 삶을 풍부하게 느낄 수 있으리라 생각된다.

transition
진입부는 주차장에서 현관으로 자연스럽게 접근하도록 했고, 열린 공간에서 닫힌 공간으로 지루하지 않은 동선 유도를 추구했다.

welcome & boder
정원과 보도 영역을 구분하고 보행자의 동선 흐름을 유도하기 위해 진입부에 낮은 담장을 설계했다.

mass
공적, 사적 생활을 분리할 수 있도록 매스를 두 개로 구분해 배치했다. 대지가 가지고 있는 축에 순응하면서 기능적 영역의 공간을 확보할 수 있도록 계획했다. 2층에는 테라스공간을 부여해 자연환경을 최대한 흡수할 수 있도록 진행했다. 자칫 인위적으로 흐르지 않도록 건물이 강하게 표출되지 않는 데 중점을 뒀으며, 바라보는 시선은 부드럽고 다정하게 접근될 수 있도록 했다.

결론
사람들은 전원 속 삶을 꿈꾸며, 원하는 생활이 많은 것이 사실이다. 이런 생각은 다양한 형태의 주거를 창출하고, 현실과 거리가 먼 웅장하고 과시적인 형태도 일부 보이는 것 같다. 허나 본 건축주의 진정성 있는 전원속의 삶은 참으로 모범적이라 보여지며, 그 소박한 꿈이 가지는 소소한 행복은 많은 생각을 하게 만든다. 화려하진 않지만 그 따스한 공간에서 웃으며 생활하는 사랑스런 가족의 모습을 그려본다.

The client, who had lived in an apartment in Seoul for a long time, had a small goal to find a comfortable and stable life in his hometown. And the client converted the idea into action, leading to the construction of a new building for his rural life. We reviewed many alternatives to make a building in nature that does not harm the existing surrounding environment, by actively reflecting the needs of the client who wants a small house that is pleasant, simple, and warm while harmonizing with the pine trees around the site. We placed the building by analyzing various conditions, such as the topography located in the sloped hill and the relationship between the existing trees. The building is named ‘Songyeongje’ in the hope of being in harmony with the surrounding pine trees.

various views
The location of the site has the advantage of being rich in scenery, where you can see the beautiful natural environment from various viewpoints. Therefore, we planned a space where people can enjoy a variety of views, considering angle, point of view, frame, etc., and made efforts to bring the external space into the building.

privacy
On the other hand, we protected privacy by minimizing the opening to the west side where a few neighboring houses are located. Instead, a large opening was installed on the southeast side to maximize the effects of light, ventilation, and landscape. Also, we carefully designed the proportion of solid and void in the façade design to eliminate boredom.

various outdoor spaces
We thought that the site was rather large compared to the size of the building. So instead of a single large garden, we planned various outdoor spaces such as front yard, back yard, pocket yard, second-floor terrace, and barbecue area connected to the kitchen. We believe the client could feel the life of the countryside in abundance in the outdoor space.

transition
The entrance was designed to lead naturally from the parking lot to the front door and to make the movement not boring from open space to closed space.

welcome & border
We planned a low fence at the entrance to separate the garden from the sidewalk area and induce pedestrian movement flow.

mass
To the separate public and private life, the mass was divided into two. A functional zone is secured while adapting to the axis of the site. On the second floor, a terrace space was designed to embrace the natural environment as much as possible. We focused on designing a humble and friendly-looking architecture, not artificial or strong expression.

conclusion
A lot of people are dreaming of a rural lifestyle and various activities at the same time. This desire creates various types of houses, within which we can find large and ostentatious ones far from reality. However, the client’s thought on rural life is sincere and sound. Small happiness from the simple dream gets me thinking. I imagine a lovely family smiling in that humble and warm place.
