서대문 뇌병변장애인 비전센터는 1990년대 목욕탕과 주택으로 지어진 건물을 고시원을 거쳐 재활·돌봄 시설로 전환한 리모델링 프로젝트이다. 와상 휠체어 이용자의 활동반경에 맞춘 간결한 공간 구성을 위해 기존 구조를 과감히 재편하였다. 1·2층은 높은 층고를 활용해 구조체만 남기고 비워냈고, 4층은 벽식구조를 철거한 뒤 철골로 치환하여 유연한 공간을 확보했다. 계단실을 해체하고 코어를 재배치함으로써 이용자 중심의 동선을 구현하였다. 지역사회의 우려를 고려해 외관은 절제된 모양으로 계획했으며, 서울에서 네 번째로 조성된 뇌병변장애인 비전센터 중 최초의 단독 건물 사례이다.

The Seodaemun Vision Center for People with Brain Lesion Disabilities is a remodeling project that transformed a building originally constructed in the 1990s as a public bathhouse and residence, later used as a goshiwon, into a rehabilitation and care facility. 
To create a simple and clear spatial layout suited to the activity range of users in reclining wheelchairs, the existing structure was boldly reorganized. On the first and second floors, the generous ceiling heights were used to clear out the interior, leaving only the structural frame. On the fourth floor, the existing wall-bearing structure was removed and replaced with a steel frame, creating a more flexible space.
By dismantling the existing stair hall and relocating the core, the project established a circulation system centered on the needs of its users. Considering concerns from the local community, the exterior was designed in a restrained and modest form.
As the fourth Vision Center for People with Brain Lesion Disabilities established in Seoul, this project is the first case to be created as a stand-alone building.
