위치와 조화
도심 안쪽 시골스러운 은근한 정취 속 변하지 않는 천변과 보문산, 식장산의 자연경관을 자랑하는 이곳에 주택을 짓기로 한 이유는 접근성 좋은 도심 속에서 자연과의 조화를 이루고자 했다. 교통의 편리함과 더불어 병원 등 필수 시설과의 접근성과 도심 속 전원주택의 장점을 최대한 살려, 외부와의 단절 없이 자연을 가까이할 수 있는 환경을 갖도록 했다.

사선의 활용
수평과 수직에서 벗어나 사선을 사용했다. 전면에 있는 창문 주변의 사선 요소는 건물에 깊이와 입체감을 부여한다. 이러한 사선 요소는 단순한 평면적 구성을 피하고 시각적으로 흥미를 갖게 하는 효과를 만들어내며, 건물에 생동감을 더한다. 또한, 사선이 만들어내는 그림자는 시간의 흐름에 따라 변하며 건물의 표정이 달라지도록 구상했다.

대칭성과 비대칭성의 조화
건물의 전반적인 구조는 대칭적이면서도 비대칭적인 요소를 적절히 배치해 균형감을 유지했다. 3, 4층에 위치한 큰 창문들은 대칭적으로 배치되어 있어 안정감을 주지만, 동시에 1, 2층의 개별 창문의 모양과 크기가 달라서 독특한 비대칭적 매력을 더한다. 이러한 조화는 건물에 독특한 시각적 리듬을 부여하며, 지루함을 줄여준다.

내부
1층과 2층은 카페로 활용되며, 내·외부의 완충 공간으로 자연스럽게 연결했다. 외부에서 완충공간을 지나 중정으로 들어서면 작은 화단과 텃밭을 통해 자연과 교감할 수 있다. 내부는 천장고를 높여 개방감을 극대화했다. 이러한 구조는 주택의 개방성과 사적인 공간을 동시에 만족시킨다. 3층은 거실, 부엌, 화장실 등 기본 공간을 배치해 손님이 왔을 때 접근성을 높였으며, 작은 정원을 조성해 자연을 느낄 수 있는 공간을 마련했다. 4층은 완전한 가족 구성원들만의 주거 공간으로 4층에 별도로 거실을 두어 가족 간의 소통을 원활하게 했다.

재료와 질감
외벽에 사용된 석재 트라버튼은 수평패턴과 브라운계열로 자연스러운 텍스처를 제공해 건물의 표면에 깊이감을 준다. 이는 현대적이고 차가운 이미지의 유리창과 대조를 이루며, 따뜻함과 차가움, 매트함과 반짝임의 대비를 통해 시각적 흥미를 유발한다. 내벽과 바닥은 고급스러운 화이트계열 대리석인 비앙코로 마감해 전체 공간에 우아함을 더한다. 자연스러운 무늬는 고급스러움을 강조하며, 시각적으로도 부드럽고 차분한 느낌을 준다. 또한, 베이지 톤의 소파와 테이블은 따듯한 분위기를 조성하며, 공간의 색상과 조화를 이룬다.

모던한 디자인과 고급스러운 재료의 사용, 자연의 효과적 활용을 통해 세련되고 우아한 분위기를 자아냈으며, 외관의 사선 요소와 내부 비앙코의 사선으로 올라가는 무늬는 공간의 동적 요소를 더한다. 변하지 않는 천변과 보문산, 식장산처럼 이 건물도 단단하고 견고한 대리석의 특징과 같이 오랜 기간 동안 형태와 색상을 유지하여 이곳의 변하지 않는 건물로 유지되기를 바란다.

Location and Harmony
The decision to build a house in this area, with its unchanging riverbanks and the natural scenery of Bomun Mountain and Sikjang Mountain amidst the subtle rural charm within the city, was driven by a desire to achieve harmony with nature while maintaining urban accessibility. The location offers convenient transportation, proximity to essential facilities such as hospitals, and the benefits of a countryside house within the city. This setting allows for a close connection with nature without feeling isolated from the outside world.

Use of Diagonals
The design incorporates diagonals, deviating from the traditional horizontal and vertical lines. The diagonal elements around the front windows add depth and dimension to the building, creating a visually interesting effect that enhances the building’s dynamic feel. These diagonal lines also create changing shadows throughout the day, giving the building different expressions over time.

Balance of Symmetry and Asymmetry
The overall structure of the building maintains balance through a blend of symmetrical and asymmetrical elements. Large windows on the third and fourth floors are symmetrically placed, providing a sense of stability, while the differing shapes and sizes of windows on the first and second floors introduce a unique asymmetrical charm. This balance creates a distinctive visual rhythm and reduces monotony.

Interior
The first and second floors serve as a café, seamlessly connecting indoor and outdoor buffer spaces. Transitioning from the outside through the buffer zone into the courtyard allows interaction with nature via small gardens and vegetable patches. High ceilings inside maximize the sense of openness, satisfying the need for both open and private spaces. The third floor houses the living room, kitchen, bathroom, and other essential spaces, ensuring easy access for guests, and includes a small garden to provide a natural ambiance. The fourth floor is reserved exclusively for family members, featuring a separate living room to facilitate family interactions.

Materials and Textures
The exterior is clad in travertine stone with horizontal patterns and brown hues, offering a natural texture and depth to the building’s surface. This contrasts with the modern, cool image of the glass windows, creating visual interest through the interplay of warmth and coolness, matte and shine. The interior walls and floors are finished with luxurious white Bianco marble, adding elegance throughout the space. The natural patterns emphasize sophistication and provide a soft, calming visual appeal. Beige-toned sofas and tables complement the overall color scheme, fostering a warm atmosphere.

Through the use of modern design, luxurious materials, and effective integration of natural elements, the building exudes a refined and elegant ambiance. The diagonal elements on the exterior and the ascending patterns of Bianco marble inside add dynamic aspects to the space. Like the enduring riverbanks, Bomun Mountain, and Sikjang Mountain, this building, with its robust and enduring travertine characteristics, is expected to maintain its form and color over time, becoming a lasting fixture in the area.
