Two Shelters

다른 곳보다 금세 진한 어둠이 찾아오는 골짜기 땅. 이 땅은 산비탈에 기대어 있다. 산에서 내려오는 경사는 약간의 평지를 마련해놓고 다시 저 아래를 향해 비스듬히 흘러간다. 따라서 자칫 에너지가 속절없이 저 너머로 흘러버리고 말 수도 있는 약간의 긴장감이 있다. 그리고 그 긴장감을 해소시켜주는 것이 두 부부의 정원이다. 그들이 정성스럽게 가꾸는 소박하고 화사한 정원이, 그 안의 밝고 환한 생명력이 이 땅의 중심을 잡아주고 에너지를 모아준다. 경사로 인한 불안감을 내재한, 그러나 낭만적인 풍경의 땅. 이곳은 작은 개울을 건너와야 비로소 들어올 수 있다. 개울을 건너오면 안쪽에 작은 자연 연못이 건강하게 숨 쉬고 있다.  깊은 산속 옹달샘 옆에 가장 단순한 형태의 담백한 셸터(Shelter)를 만들고자 했다.

두 개의 원형질의 Shelter 

원형질의 가장 단순한 형태로 기능을 담고자 했다. 오두막 형태의 볼륨 두 개가 나란히 붙어 그 원초성이 주는 아우라로 땅에 단단히 서 있다. 외부에 면한 무뚝뚝한 큰 매스를 돌아서 땅 안쪽으로 들어오면 작고 밝은, 개방적인 매스를 볼 수 있다. 이 작은 셸터는 정원의 기능을 담고 낮 시간대 집안의 베이스캠프 역할을 한다. 정원 일을 하고 밥을 짓고 식사를 하고 그림을 그린다. 햇빛을 찾아, 그늘을 찾아 들락날락 자연과 셸터 사이를 오가다 보면 어느새 어둠이 찾아올 것이다. 어둠이 좀 더 짙어지면 부부는 좀 더 견고하고 폐쇄적이며 아늑한 큰 셸터로 들어가서 밤 시간을 즐길 것이다. 외부재료는 벽과 지붕을 동일한 재료로 선정, 셸터의 성격을 더욱 부여하고자 했다. 은색의 천연슬레이트는 날씨에 따라 색을 달리하는 모던한 소재로 외관의 단순한 형태를 구현하는데 적합했다.

A land in a valley where darkness falls sooner than anywhere else. This land is on the hillside. The slope down from the mountain gives a bit of flatland and then flows downhill again. There's a bit of tension that could cause the energy to flow over helplessly. And it is the client couple's garden that relieves the tension. The bright and straightforward green they carefully take care of and the bright and cheerful vitality inside the garden keep the land's balance and gathers energy. A land that has inherent anxiety caused by the slope but presents romantic scenery. You can enter this place only after crossing a small stream. When you cross the stream, there is a small natural pond that is breathing healthily inside.

2 Prototype Shelters

We intend to contain functions in the simplest form of the prototype. Two hut-shaped volumes are attached side by side and stand firmly on the ground with the aura of primitive nature. If you turn around the sizeable blunt mass facing the outside and enter the site, you can see a small, bright, open small mass. This small shelter functions as a garden and as a base camp for the house during the daytime. You can do gardening, cook, eat, and paint. If you go back and forth between nature and shelter searching for sunlight and shade, darkness falls already. When the darkness becomes more profound, the couple will go into a larger sanctuary that is more solid, closed, and cozy and enjoy the nighttime.
As the exterior material, we selected the same material for the wall and the roof to make the shelter more characteristic. Natural silver slate used a modern material that differs in color depending on the weather, which was suitable for realizing the simple form of the exterior.
